º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ plans for growth through a more connected campus

25 March 2021: The Master Plan outlines a light rail alignment through campus and the creation of a sports hub/indoor arena as key features of the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s 20-year Campus Master Plan released today.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Paddy Nixon, said “Today, we are launching a masterplan focussed on the growth of students, research and industry partnerships. We are fortunate to be in a position to invest in and support the economic growth of Canberra.”

“The Master Plan will see º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ become better connected to Belconnen and Bruce with a proposed alignment for future light rail service travelling from Civic through the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Campus and onto the Belconnen precinct. as well as better walking and cycling connections.” he said.

“The º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Campus Master Plan embraces the concept of the ‘Educated Life’ — integrating campus with community through a range of neighbourhoods where people live, learn and work,” said Professor Nixon.

A sports precinct — including plans for a new arena, multi-court sports centre and continuation of high-performance sport and associated research – would cement the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ as the sports university of Australia.

Other interconnected campus hubs – including health, aged care, early learning, retail and housing – will deliver a raft of on-campus services accessible to the Belconnen and greater Canberra community.

The Campus Master Plan will be brought to life by the University working in close partnership with business and industry on opportunities for forward-looking co-investment across commercial, retail and hospitality spaces.

“Our Master Plan leverages the energy that comes with being Australia’s fastest rising university*, paving a way over the next 20 years for a progressive and sustainable campus in the nation’s capital,’ Professor Nixon said.
