Canberra School of Politics, Economics & Society
Welcome to the Canberra School of Politics, Economics & Society (SchoPES). SchoPES is composed of a diverse group of academics teaching and researching in Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations, and National Security.
Our courses provide students with a strong foundation in the social sciences to prepare them for careers across government, business, and civil society. Our students can extend their studies through an honours year, which includes both course work and thesis components.
Our location in the nation’s capital provides us with strong networks in government and policy-relevant businesses, and we draw on these connections to keep our teaching offerings up to date and relevant to today’s students. SchoPES offers a common first year experience which helps students build cross-disciplinary connections, networks and friendships.
For research students, our staff have a range of expertise and are interested in supervising PhD and Masters by research students across all of the disciplines covered by the School. Our research analyses big questions that confront government, business and contemporary society and contributes to public debate. Details of our research can be found in individual staff profiles on the 'Our People' page of the BGL website.
