Current º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students have several options to study overseas
Study overseas
This page is for current º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students. If you are an international student wanting to study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, please visit our International student exchange and study abroad page.
Why study abroad?
All º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Global Learning programs are structured and supportive, so a great way to take your first independent leap into the big, wide world.
As well as gaining credit in your course, you’ll get endless opportunities to:
- know a different culture and better appreciate your own
- enhance your employability
- gain a greater understanding of global issues
- step outside your comfort zone
- develop your self-confidence and a sense of self-reliance
- increase your independence
- make friends for life
- possibly learn a new language
Student exchange
Study full-time units related to your degree for a semester or year at one of our partner universities around the world, while continuing to pay your tuition fees to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
Choose your own uni
If you can't find the type of student exchange program you want at one of our partner universities, consider choosing your own international university to study with for a semester or year.
Faculty study tours
Immerse yourself in short-term study and cultural experiences linked directly to your course.
Independent short programs
Study and travel overseas during the winter or summer break with a short-term, 2–6-week independent program that will earn you credit for an open elective.
Before you can embark on the adventure of a lifetime, you'll need to budget for the cost of tuition, flights, visas, accommodation and food – but you may not have to raise all of these funds on your own.
If you're eligible, several scholarships, grants and loans can help you cover many of these expenses before you go.
Free travel insurance
You'll also receive travel insurance coverage under the university's corporate travel insurance policy and have access to International SOS 24/7 assistance while overseas.
Studying overseas has opened my eyes not only to the world, but to all the possibilities within my degree. I’ve made so many friends from all around the world, gone on so many adventures, both through VIU’s Cultural Connections program and independently, challenged myself in ways I could have never imagined back in Australia and, overall, have had an incredible experience.

My advice to any student thinking of doing an exchange or study abroad semester is to do it … The people you meet and the things you get to see and do are indescribable … It’s difficult to pick out just one or two highlights!
